Oracle has integrated new greenhouse gas accounting software into its e-business suite of programs, allowing companies to reduce the environmental impact of their projects.
The program, developed by Ndevr, allows companies to enter data on a number of industries including gas and electricity. Instead of taking months to calculate greenhouse gas emissions, the data can now be displayed on a daily basis.
Environmental Leader reported that the new software, combined with Oracle’s other programs was able to save the Utah Department of Transportation both time and money on a bridge construction project. By reviewing the various options, UDOT was able to reduce construction time by a year, improve traffic flow, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 120,000 tons. The changes also lowered impact costs to drivers, like gas consumption, by more than $10 million.
The software could help companies make cost-effective decisions regarding their carbon emissions, as suggested by a recent Ernst & Young report. The firm said that because more environmental regulations put in place in the near future, companies which identified opportunities to reduce their emissions early in the process would have a "competitive edge."
